How to buy cubes for a mosaic without relying on brand hype
A mosaic may require hundreds of visually matching cubes. Listings, prices and production batches change, so use this checklist to test the exact product and seller you intend to order from rather than relying on a fixed model ranking.
Calculate the quantity before comparing offers
Multiply cubes wide by cubes tall, then add a small spare allowance for damage, shade differences and later repairs. The mosaic planner calculates counts and physical size. Compare the total delivered price, including taxes and shipping.
Buy samples before the full order
- Order two or three cubes from the same listing and seller.
- Confirm the six colours match the palette shown in the generator.
- Measure each edge with a ruler or callipers.
- Compare sticker shades side by side in neutral light.
- If you will move stickers, test whether one lifts without stretching.
A sample cannot guarantee a later batch will match, but it can reveal unsuitable dimensions, colour schemes and sticker construction early.
The specifications that matter
- Stickered or stickerless. Sticker swapping requires adhesive stickers. Moulded-colour cubes must be turned to a usable pattern.
- Consistent edge length. Measure the delivered product before cutting a frame; not every 3×3 has identical dimensions.
- One colour scheme. Avoid mixed lots or novelty palettes unless you also change the artwork palette.
- One production batch. Ask whether the full quantity can be supplied together.
- Replacement availability. Keep matching spares from the original order because a later reorder may differ.
Questions to send a supplier
I need [quantity] identical 3×3 cubes for a colour mosaic. Are they stickered or moulded colour? What is the measured edge length? Can the full order ship from one batch? Please quote the total delivered price and confirm your policy for damaged or visibly mismatched units.
Build a budget from your own quotes
Use quantity × delivered unit price, then add the actual prices of spares, replacement stickers if needed, sheet material, fixings and transport. This site does not publish current price tables because currency, location, shipping and promotions make them stale quickly.
Before placing the order
- Generate the final mosaic and record its exact grid dimensions.
- Decide between turning cubes and moving stickers.
- Approve a physical sample.
- Get a written delivered-price quote for one-batch stock plus spares.
- Only cut the frame after measuring cubes from the delivered order.
